on 2010-08-24I really love these videos. My daughter started watching them at about 6 months. She is now 23 months old and can read around 50 words. She loves these videos, especially the animals. People are amazed that she can read so many words. I made my own flash cards by buying some cheap photo albums and writing the words on large index cards then placing them in the album (the albums are only $1 at walmart) She can read through the 6 different albums we have. I would recommend them to anyone.

on 2010-08-12The item was shipped but I never received the slips to collect them from the post office which wouldn't release the item without such slips. They were returned to the seller and all my claims were never responded to. Might as well accept the loss. Won't purchase from this seller ever again.

on 2010-08-04I recently purchased this set for my grandbabies. The oldest is 18 months and the other day her dad brought her up to my car window and she leaned in and said demurely, "Hello." We all about fell over. She also knows the word cat by sight and what a cat is. I don't live there so I don't know more but I am thrilled with the program as is the kids parents.

on 2010-07-02I bought the videos while still pregnant with my son and couldn't wait till he was 3mo. so we could start the videos...well it's over 6mo. later and uhhh...my son is 9mo. and isn't talking let alone reading...now I'm panicking that he's slow or something!! I am devastated!!! He was really into the videos I'd say the first 3 or 4 mo. but slowly got bored and now will hardly watch it anymore...even though putting a dvd in and pressing play once or twice a day doesn't sound like a big deal, after 6mo. your so worried about results that it becomes more of a dreaded burden for the parents...Overall I would not recommend these videos, they'll just add stress to your life. You'll constantly be asking yourself "is it working?" "When is he/she going to start responding" etc...maybe I started them too early and they had a negative effect I dunno...but really think it through before spending all that money.

on 2010-06-18I've been reading about how babies are adept learners and there is NO doubt that you can teach your baby to read. But if you think you can plop your infant/toddler in front of these DVDs, think again. You'll have to sit with your baby to help keep them engaged, and then praise them like crazy once they finish a DVD. The DVDs could have more modern graphics, and the words they use could be more relevant (ex: "gorilla"--how many babies come across gorillas in their daily lives?); sometimes the sound/video quality is poor.
But babies CAN read. My baby was terribly bored by the Starter video so I just decided to skip it and went on to Volume 1. That was a good choice because it has songs that are strategically placed so she gets re-engaged into learning. It's been a month and she is already demonstrating understanding. For example, when I show her the word "kick", she will kick her feet. She's only 6 months old, so I am kinda impressed by it.
I've also been using other teaching materials. I recommend ordering Glen Doman's "Teach Your Baby To Read". His group has done sound research and their methods worked on brain damaged children (Their premise is: if we can teach babies who have had a partial lobotomy to read, then why couldn't you teach your 'normal' child to read). It's a quick read, and they have a simplistic program to follow that has been used since the 60s.
